MSMEs in Textile and Apparel GVCs

ММСП текстильной отрасли в глобальных ЦДСA seminar devoted to participation of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in textile and apparel global value chains (GVCs) held in Ha Noi, Viet Nam on March 29th – 30th 2016.

Representatives from seven APEC economies (China, Indonesia, Mexico, Viet Nam, Australia, Peru and Malaysia) presented the outcomes of respective case studies on promoting the participation of MSMEs in textile and apparel GVCs. Experts of Russian APEC Study Center Olga Ismagilova and Nikita Pyzhikov took part in the meeting.

Participants discussed main difficulties and impediments that prevent MSMEs from participating in the textile and apparel global value chains, including dependence on imported fabric and accessories, shortage of workforce, illegal trade, intellectual property rights violation, inefficiency of government support and lack of financing. Presentations also included recommendations to APEC policy-makers on enhancing the efficiency of the overall participation of micro, small and medium enterprises in GVCs.

A field trip has been arranged by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Viet Nam to visit a local textile and apparel SME. TBT Garment Co., Ltd – a Vietnamese enterprise with a workforce of 200 – is actively participating in global value chains.
